Vidigueira Vinho de Talha Branco DOC

The grapes used to make this Vinho de Talha come from just 6 ha of vineyards owned by members of the winery, who made them available for this project. They all share their «great pride and excitement» at seeing their work rewarded, having supplied grapes from traditional white varieties: Antão Vaz, Roupeiro, Manteúdo, Diagalves, Larião and Perrum, some of which are nearly extinct.

Developed by the Romans and brought to Portugal two thousand years ago, Vinho de Talha is now a proud symbol of the Alentejo, a region that has succeeded in preserving this traditional winemaking process. This know-how has been passed down from generation to generation, shaped by the course of history and its events, and has established a unique cultural heritage that must be preserved and incorporated into the cultural legacy of the Vidigueira region, the heartland of Vinho de Talha.

This technique of making wine in large clay vessels, known as amphorae or talhas, has survived through the centuries and, thanks to its simplicity and naturalness, has long been part of everyday life in the Alentejo.

At Adega Cooperativa de Vidigueira, Cuba e Alvito, we remain faithful to the most traditional process, making our Vinho de Talha as artisanally and manually as possible.

Typically enjoyed with just a quince in Alentejo taverns, this wine can also be served with a more elaborate meal. We suggest, for example, Arroz de Cabidela: a dish with a strong personality to match a singular wine, representative of a unique wine region!
